High Wycombe slumped to an agonising and narrow two-wicket loss to old rivals Slough at the weekend.

Batting first, quite a few Wycombe batsmen got starts but never pushed onto a significant score that could have proved beyond Slough’s reach.

The team lost wickets at regular intervals. Teddie Casterton showed promise with 23 and Dan Marles made 18 before both were dismissed with the score on 63/3.

Captain Nathan Hawkes made 41 before being bowled before in-form batsman George Russell made 11 as he was dismissed by six-wicket hero Ali Akbar Raja.

David Cranfield-Thompson made a fluent 51 and Cam Parsons a sprightly 28 as High Wycombe made 231.

High Wycombe made a great start of defending their modest total as Parsons got rid of Yaqoot Rafiq lbw for just two.

A decent partnership then ensued as Fahim Qureshi and Daniyal Akhtar both made 39 as they calmly made their way to 117/3.

Number four batsman Shahid Yousaf proved the glue for his side but Tom Hampton bowled an inspired spell as he rattled through the middle order with some quick deliveries to get rid of Shaan Khan, Zaheer Sher and Naveed Akhtar all for single figures.

However, Yousaf increased the tempo to make a superb 93 off 99 balls before he was run out by Marles.

Muhammad Haroon (20) edged his side closer to the target as Sulaiman Akhtar saw his side home.
