High Wycombe suffered a big dent to their promotion hopes with a 141-run battering at the hands of Banbury.

A controversial decision to stick Banbury CC would not be forgotten as a low first wicket partnership was followed by an unbelievable batting display by skipper Lloyd Sabin who seemed to quickly get comfortable at the crease as he hit 17 fours and one six on his way to 122 not out.

Craig Haupt (30) and Moegamat Qaasim Adams (21) chipped in with some important runs before Charles Hill (52 not out) inevitably made sure of a great innings.

With High Wycombe only taking wickets through Tom Hampton (2-55), Adam Dobb (2-57) and Dan Marles (1-27), Banbury set a 255 target for High Wycombe to keep their hopes alive.

With confidence coming into this game, Teddie Casterton came to the crease and only managed to survive eight balls before being dismissed.

The pick of the batsman was Marles who got four boundaries in his innings to get to 28 before being run-out by Hill.

With only six batsmen getting into double figures and one getting over twenty it was an innings to forget for the home side.

A great bowling display by Banbury put the cherry on the cake and made sure of a good day at the office taking them above High Wycombe in the table.

Tight bowling spells for the two openers set the tone for the innings as Qaasim Adams came on and took a wonderful 5-35 and John West joined the party with a superb 3-18 spell.

With Oliver Wright (1-30) and the run out, it was job done for Banbury on a disappointing day for High Wycombe with three of their top five batsman not getting double figures.

High Wycombe 2nds, however, kept up their march to the title as they recorded a quite extraordinary four-wicket win over fierce rivals Beaconsfield on Saturday.

Batting first, Beaconsfield made the most of brilliant batting conditions and racked up a mighty score of 342/3 from 52 overs.

David Heavyside did most of the damage with a brutal 111 from just 54 balls with seven fours and 10 sixes to his name, and he was aided by Patrick Foster’s 68 off 69 balls with 10 fours and one six.

With such a challenging total to chase down, High Wycombe stuttered at the beginning as Gavin Baker (25), Anuraj Nair (37) and Simon Janes (8) all fell cheaply.

However, David Cranfield-Thompson smashed an incredible 158 off 90 balls to see his side home with excellent support from John Stevens (43) and Joe Dulieu (37).
