Wycombe Wanderers enjoyed another encouraging pre-season display ahead of the new campaign, despite losing 1-0 to Championship outfit Brentford on a warm evening at Adams Park.

Marcus Forss' 75th minute penalty proved to be the difference after Michael Harriman tripped Moses Odubajo in the area.

Other than that, both sides had chances in a competitive affair in south Bucks with Wanderers making nine changes at the break.

Both teams enjoyed a lively start and Wycombe had the ball in the net after six minutes when Trialist-CF thumped home from close range but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Brentford had a good opportunity on 13 minutes when Alan Judge broke into the box and his firm shot was well blocked by Yves Ma-Kalambay.

The Bees almost got through on goal again on 22 minutes thanks to Sergi Canos’ exquisite pass but Trialist made a superb block to deny Neal Maupay.

It was an entertaining match and Adebayo Akinfenwa’s neat volley was well held by Luke Daniels on the half hour mark after a wonderful cross from Joe Jacobson.

A minute later, Judge unleashed a thunderbolt which was parried to safety by Ma-Kalambay.

Ma-Kalambay came to Wycombe’s rescue again on 34 minutes when some superb football from Brentford gave Romaine Sawyers a chance but the big keeper made a smart save.

For a pre-season friendly, it was a highly competitive affair and Harriman’s 20-yard strike went just wide of the right-hand post on 38 minutes.

Wanderers came out the traps quickly in the second half and Nathan Tyson raced into the box just seconds in but his cross was blocked by Tom Field.

From the resulting corner, Trialist-CB2 blazed over from six yards.

Tyson had an excellent chance to give the Blues the lead from Harriman’s sweeping cross on 49 minutes but his header landed on the roof of the net.

Ryan Allsop came on for the excellent Ma-Kalambay at half time and he produced a superb save on 57 minutes to halt Sergi Canos’ deflected effort.

Allsop again made a decent stop on 63 minutes, tipping Maupay’s stinging effort round the post.

However, Brentford were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes to go which Forss tucked away.

Forss had a great chance to make it two on 84 minutes after a mistake by Sido Jombati but he shot tamely at Allsop.

Tyson had one last golden chance on 88 minutes but he rifled over from 12 yards.

Blues boss Gareth Ainsworth will surely be pleased with Wycombe's first two pre-season matches as they now face non-league opponents in their next three games.
