Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth stated that his side will have to rely on togetherness this season following their 2-1 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Two goals within the first 20 minutes of a dominant first-half display helped Rovers seal their first three points of the season, despite a nervy ending following a Scott Kashket consolation goal.

Ainsworth acknowledged the large amount of chances missed throughout the match and claimed that the togetherness within the squad is something they will have to rely on going forward.

He said: “I think the togetherness is something we’re going to have to rely on this season.

“Rather than adding and buying players we’ve had to sell a player and that’s Wycombe Wanderers – it’s tough.

He added: “The team played really well last season and I don’t think there’s much difference between the top five of League Two and bottom five of League One and that’s important.

“If we finish five from bottom that’s fine for me, we’ll be a successful side.

“Having said that, we’re aiming for a lot higher. We have to start picking up points soon.“

Reflecting on the game, Ainsworth expressed his frustration that the goal came so late on.

“Yeah, it’s frustrating. I’ve said to the boys we needed to start games like we finish them – on the front foot.”

He added: “We need to start believing that we’re going to stick it in the back of the net and we’ll be working hard on that.”

Ainsworth then assured that there’s no panic within the camp despite the Blues falling to their second successive league defeat.

He commented: “No panic yet, I’m ready to work hard and make sure we’re competitive and have a right good go at surviving in League One.”
