Wycombe Wanderers threw away the lead as Charlton came from behind to win a lively encounter 3-2 at The Valley in the League One clash.

Despite a good performance by the Blues, the Addicks made it count when it mattered in south London and punished Wycombe for their mistakes at the back.

Randell Williams gave Wycombe the lead after just six minutes when he curled in a beauty from 20 yards which gave Jed Steer in the Charlton goal no chances.

However, with the Chairboys in control, Sido Jombati steered into his own net on 31 minutes after Lewis Page crossed from Charlton’s first real attack.

Taylor gave the home side the lead on 70 minutes, tapping home from a yard after great work by Joe Aribo and Karlan Grant.

The comeback was complete on 79 minutes when Naby Sarr took advantage of poor marking from a free kick to hammer home from six yards.

However, Wanderers kept fighting and Paris Cowan Hall's bullet header from Joe Jacobson's cross with a minute of normal time to go gave the Blues a small lifeline.

It was a lively start at The Valley with both sides aiming to be on the front foot from the off.

Wycombe had the first chance of the match and Williams finished it in some style to send the Wanderers supporters into raptures.

That goal stunned The Valley and Wanderers were playing with extreme confidence, with the attacking trio of Williams, Adebayo Akinfenwa and Craig Mackail-Smith looking particularly dangerous.

The game plan was working a treat for the Blues in the first 25 minutes with the Addicks unable to test Wycombe’s defence, being stifled at every opportunity.

However, out of nothing, Charlton equalised on 31 minutes after their first decent passage of play as Jombati sliced into his own goal from six yards.

Wycombe responded well and a minute later, Jombati almost atoned for his error when he met Joe Jacobson’s corner but saw his header cleared off the line.

The Addicks bounced back on 35 minutes when the ball was played through to Taylor in the box but he was denied by a superb save from Ryan Allsop.

Bryn Morris had a sniff for the visitors on 39 minutes when he picked up the loose ball on the edge of the area but his firm strike went way over.

The game was really opening up and Taylor almost scored a contender from goal of the season on 40 minutes when his overhead kick fizzed just over after good work by Grant.

The Chairboys began the second half well and Jacobson’s free kick just eluded McCarthy on 49 minutes which Steer gathered well.

Wycombe were well in the ascendency, pinning Charlton back in their own area after a series of corners and free kicks.

Jombati again came so close to regaining the lead for Wanderers on 58 minutes when he met Jacobson’s corner with a fantastic header but George Lapslie cleared from under the crossbar.

Jacobson then performed heroics a minute later when he cut out Ben Reeves’ cross with a terrific challenge.

The Blues had a golden chance on 61 minutes when Jacobson laid the ball into the path of Williams’ who found Morris in acres of space in the box but he snatched at his shot at the vital moment.

Charlton had their first real chance of the second half on 65 minutes when Lapslie’s superb ball in found Patrick Bauer who ballooned his header over the bar.

Taylor nearly gave Charlton an undeserved lead on 67 minutes when Anthony Stewart missed a header and Taylor was in one-on-one but Allsop made a brave save to foil him.

Lee Bowyer’s side were beginning to up the tempo and the lively Taylor got his rewards when he scored one of the easiest goals of his career with 20 minutes to go.

That goal knocked the stuffing out of Wycombe and Sarr capitalised on weak defending to give Charlton the points.

However, Cowan Hall's thumping header on 89 minutes gave the Blues a liefline but the Addicks held firm much to their relief.

Overall, a good display from the Blues but the Addicks were more clinical. Next up is a local derby against Oxford next Saturday.
