Vieira joins Taylor revolution

WANDERERS have signed Brazilian striker-cum-wideman Magno Vieira on a free transfer from Conference side Crawley Town.

The 23-year-old penned a one-year contract yesterday, which will be extended providing he makes a certain number of appearances, and will join up with his new team-mates when Wanderers report back for pre-season training this morning.

The former Wigan, Carlisle and Barnet man, who finished last season on loan at Conference play-off final losers Cambridge United, becomes manager Peter Taylor's fifth signing of the summer.

Taylor said: "He can play down middle, wide right or wide left and he is a good finisher.

"As you would expect from a Brazilian he's got good technique.

"He's stocky, he doesn't get pushed off the ball and he makes good runs and if you've got good players in your team who can spot those runs, and I think we have, then he can do some damage.

"He is a very hard-working player and he is hungry to succeed and I'm sure he will be the type of player the supporters will want to see."

Vieira came to England with the highest recommendation arriving at Wigan after being put forward by former Brazilian World Cup legend Jairzinho.

But he failed to get a start with the Latics and moved on to Carlisle United, scoring ten times in 35 appearances as the Cumbrians regained their Football League place.

He then went to Barnet, scoring five times in 22 appearances before moving on to Crawley where he netted five times in 11 outings before being loaned out to Cambridge.

His arrival means Wanderers now have plenty of attacking options with five forwards on the books.

Taylor will get the chance to run the rule over his new-look squad for the first time today.

But Sergio Torres (ankle), Matt Bloomfield (cruciate) and Mike Williamson (with a slight groin problem) will all miss the first day back as they continue to work on building up their strength with the club's physios.
