WYCOMBE Wanderers will make a swathe of changes for tonight’s home Carling Cup tie with Peterborough United, with manager Peter Taylor telling the players that come in: Win a place in my team for Leeds.

Blues host the Yorkshire giants on Saturday and although the manager was happy with the way his team regrouped in their 3-2 defeat at Charlton on the opening day of the League One campaign, he has told his squad that places for Blues’ most glamourous home game of the season are up for grabs.

Taylor said: “As much as I was pleased on Saturday, there were things that weren’t 100 per cent.

“Maybe going to Charlton on the first day of the season was a bit too much for some of them, so there are slots available.”

Three games in seven days is also a big challenge at the start of the season, and the manager is keen to spread the workload.

He said: “I’ve got 20 players in the squad and it’s important to give all the players a run.

“Three games in a week is hard at this stage of the season. I’m not saying nobody will do it, but I want to make that number as low as possible.”

However, Blues, semi-finalists in the Carling Cup two seasons ago, are not going to lay down the red carpet for a Peterborough team that could include former Wanderers Sergio Torres and Russell Martin.

Taylor said: “There will be changes, but we are desperate to go through.

“We could do with a win to get the season started. I don’t think we need it for confidence. We are confident anyway and we showed on Saturday how well we can play. But a good performance would be very handy.”

Right back Adam Smith has a dead leg and is likely to miss out although he should be fit for Leeds, and Taylor has ruled out any new faces arriving at Adams Park this week.
