WYCOMBE Wanderers have signed striker Alex Revell on a free transfer from League One rivals Southend United.

The 26-year-old inked a deal until the end of the season after passing his Adams Park medical yesterday.

He becomes manager Gary Waddock's second signing of the January transfer window following the capture of defender Adam Hinshelwood.

Waddock said of his latest arrival: "I am delighted to get him. I've been tracking him for some while and hopefully he can score the goals we have been missing."

Revell was a prolific hitman in his younger days with 35 goals in 30 matches for Braintree earning him a move to Brighton.

He was equally impressive for the Seagulls and his performances for them earned him a £150,000 move up the coast to Southend.

But a broken leg slowed his progress and he has managed just four goals in more than 40 appearances for the Shrimpers.

He spent three months on loan at Swindon but scored just twice in that time and Wycombe pounced after the Robins decided not to take up their option to sign him.
