FORMER Wanderers skipper Michael Duberry is back in the game with Scottish outfit St Johnstone less than a week after being paid up by Wycombe.

He had his contract terminated by mutual consent on Monday and an agreement was reached compensating him for the money he would have earned over the remaining 18 months of his contract if he had stayed put.

Wanderers owner Steve Hayes called it an expensive mistake while manager Gary Waddock said he was happy to terminate the 34-year-old's contract because he was 'planning for the future.'

Duberry signed for Wycombe in a blaze of publicity in the summer but fell down the pecking order when Gary Waddock succeded Peter Taylor as manager.

Waddock axed him from the squad and even refused to name him on his seven-man substitutes bench.

But now the centre half will relaunch his career north of the border after joining the McDiarmid Park club as a free agent.

He will go into the Saints squad for Saturday's Active Nation Scottish Cup tie with Dundee United, subject to international clearance.

Duberry told his new club's website: "I just want to play football and, when myself and Wycombe agreed to part company, Jody (Morris- former Chelsea team-mate) encouraged me to join St Johnstone."
