Cips makes all the right noises

DANNY Cipriani gave the clearest indication yet this weekend that he will stay at Wasps.

He said the Wycombe club remained his first priority and positive talks would “put a stop to everything”.

The 22-year-old fly half was linked with a move to Super 14 outfit Melbourne Rebels last week and admitted he was interested, but it now appears he is staying put to fight for his international future.

Director of rugby Tony Hanks would not talk about contracts following Sunday’s 9-3 LV Cup victory in Newcastle, but Wasps will make a statement on all their out-of-contract players this week.

Best mates Cipriani and Paul Sackey are among the highest profile players the club has been negotiating new deals with.

Sackey recently said he wanted to finish his career wearing the black and gold, and Cipriani’s signature could make it a big double for the the club.

Speaking on Sunday before helping England Saxons to a 31-5 victory over Italy A in Treviso, Cipriani said: “My dream is to play in the next World Cup. I want to play for England again. I aim to be in the best possible position to make that happen.

“If I am 30 years old and I haven’t got 50 caps I will kick myself.”

A move to Australia would not help his cause.

He said: “I am just going to do the best I can to make sure I am available for selection.

“It is a crucial stage for me to get my development in and make sure I progress as a player and be in that squad for the World Cup.

“Melbourne was interesting to hear about, but I am in positive talks with Wasps and they are moving forward.

“If they are positive, it will put a full stop to everything. My first loyalty is to Wasps.”
