WYCOMBE and England star Isa Guha has called for the creation of a women’s equivalent of the IPL.
Guha has been on England duty in India for the past three weeks, where the team lost the ODI Series 3-2 but won the Twenty20 2-1.
She said: “I am following the IPL.
“I think it would be great for the women’s game, creating more competition and showcasing the world’s best players from different countries. It would also be a stepping-stone to women’s cricket becoming professional.”
Guha, who played for Wycombe Colts and still has a family home five minutes from the London Road ground, helped England Women to the World Cup and World Twenty20 title last year.
She has been named in England’s provisional squad for the World Twenty20 taking place in the West Indies in May.
She said: “I think our success has been down to hard work and being well prepared.
“Back in 2005 we lost in the semi-final of the World Cup and that was a great learning curve for the team.
“It gave us a goal and even more of a hunger to win the World Cup, so we went away and set ourselves a long-term plan to do it.
“There has also been more focus on the development of women’s cricket over the last few years, which has helped to raise the profile of the game and give more opportunities with competitions like the Super 4s.”
England’s final squad for West Indies will be named on March 19.
