GARY Waddock is today scouring the market for a centre half after Brentford recalled Alan Bennett from his loan at Adams Park yesterday.
His departure leaves Wanderers with just two fit centre halves going into the business end of the season.
They can’t call Luke Oliver back from his loan at Bradford City until the end of the month and Leon Johnson is still a month away from fitness.
That leaves The Chairboys with just injury-prone skipper Adam Hinshelwood and Chris Westwood available and Waddock does not want to be caught short in such a vital position.
Waddock said: “Alan has done really well for us and we’re disappointed that he has gone back. He’s been solid and confident.”
And the Wanderers manager is keeping his fingers crossed that he does not lose another vital member of his defence tonight.
Right back Julian Kelly’s month’s loan from Reading has expired and Wycombe have applied to extend it.
But they have been told the decision is dependent on The Royals coming through their Championship game against QPR tonight without any injuries.
Waddock is hoping both solutions will be resolved tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s must-win clash with relegation rivals Exeter City.
He has got a centre half in mind and has already made his move but has been told he must wait until tomorrow for an answer.
He said: “We’ve got to wait until Wednesday and, touch wood, we will get the outcome we are hoping for.”
