Rees rejects Wycombe Wasps

TOM Rees says re-naming the club Wycombe Wasps would be unfair to the club’s history, but thinks losing the London prefix is an option.

Rees, a former High Wycombe RGS pupil, said: “Personally, my feeling is that the club is Wasps.

“I think some people might take issue with the idea of Wycombe Wasps. I wouldnt’ necessarily see it as a slap in the face of the history of the club, but you would lose that acknowledgement of where the club has come from.

“In terms of setting a base and being part of Wycombe I don’t see the name as an issue. We’re Wasps. That’s how people refer to us.”

Wasps was derived from Wasps Football Club, who were formed in 1867 in North London,

If they were so worried about tradition they would not have moved away from London. There were other options available to them.

Wasps in Wycombe was meant to be a short term thing ... until the plan was hatched to buy out Wanderers, get their hands on the ground, make lots of money developing it. Meanwhile they give Councillors presents so that a new stadium can be built at local people's expense.
.
BigTommy is right. The new stadium will be run by a new company in which Steve Hayes will have lots of power. EVERYTHING will revolve around Wasps. Eventually he will find a way of getting rid of the Wanderers and have the stadium entirely for Wasps ... except for a few track meets in the summer.
.
Can't you see it? It is blindingly obvious!

Deepthinker demonstrating shallow thought there.
.
For instance, Wasps have not bought Wanderers, nor have they 'got their hands on the ground'. I also wonder what these 'other options' you consider were available were. It almost sounds like WW didn't think it was a good idea to have a tenant paying for the privilege of renewing their landlord's pitch and paying a rental for every match. Oh, and handing over the bulk of the profit on match day retail sales revenues.
.
Don't confuse Stave Hayes and Wasps.
.
And don't pretend that Wasps coming to Wycombe was anything but a very good thing for Wanderers - even if it wasn't as good a thing as their profligate commercial management needed to bail them out. Which is why Steve Hayes is now boss hog.

Well, there are a few other things. too. A completely messed up surface to play football on, for one. Supporters defecting to Wasps thus losing WWFC revenue, for another. Knocking down a perfectly good stadium, with its associated enviromental cost (because only Wasps need that to happen), is another.
No pretence there, is there?
