Super Steves set to run the London Marathon

WANDERERS assistant manager Steve Brown and Blues managing director Steve Hayes are set to run the London Marathon to raise money for Cancer Research.

Brown decided to take on the challenge because a number of his friends are suffering from the illness and challenged Hayes to join him.

The duo will be joined on the 26-mile slog around the capital by youth team physio Murray Moore and Blues' operations assistant, Keirina Rowland.

Brown said: "A number of my closest friends' lives are cruelly affected by cancer at the moment and I immediately thought it would be appropriate to run the marathon in aid of Cancer Research. I have never run a marathon before, but I love a challenge and will give it 100 per cent."

But Brownie is under no illusions about the size of the task ahead.

He said: "When I'm in the car I put the milometer on and it takes a long time to get to 26 miles. It is a long way to go in the car and it is going to seem a lot further when I am running it.

"But I am determined to do it for the charity and for myself.

"I have always watched the London Marathon on television in the past and thought I could never put my body through that but now I am going to do it.

"It is a big challenge and this is a fantastic opportunity to give something back.

"The training is tough and I'm under no illusions about how hard it is going to be.

"For me it is not about winning it is just about completing it in around four-and-a-half hours and raising the money."

The team are already in training and Brownie will warm up for the event on April 23 by taking part in the Silverstone Half Marathon on March 19.

That race consists of two laps of the six-and-a-half mile circuit and Brown said: "I've been to motor racing at Silverstone several times and watched the cars take about a minute and a half to do a lap but it's going to take me about two and half hours to get round twice.

The quartet are hoping to raise at least £8,000 between them.
