A MORE professional outlook off the pitch will lead to rewards on it for Beaconsfield SYCOB, believes new boss Dave Mudge.

The former Windsor and Eton manager is still looking for his first win since taking charge at SYCOB but two drawn games in the space of three days suggest they are starting to turn the corner.

A goalless game at mid-table Leighton Town on Saturday was followed by a battling performance in a 1-1 draw in the Bucks derby with Aylesbury on Monday night.

Mudge was delighted with the way SYCOB battled back from falling behind after Beaconsfield keeper Carl Dennison sliced a backpass into the path of Aylesbury striker Glen Hawkins, who had a simple task in rolling the ball home.

Substitute Craig O’Connor scored a late equaliser when he turned his man superbly at the near post before firing in from a narrow angle.

Mudge said afterwards: “I was impressed with the attitude of the players. They have had a go tonight and we’ve got to change this losing mentality. That starts with timekeeping, being professional when you turn up and we are slowly getting that into people.

“In two weeks we’ve come a long way. We got a good result Saturday, we didn’t create an awful lot tonight and gone a goal behind but they are chasing promotion.

“We targeted a point from each and a win on Saturday.”

He said his team had enough in the tank to stay up, despite being bottom of the table.

He said: “What we have to do is beat poorer sides when we play them. I still think 36 points will be enough to stay up. We are almost a point a game from that. If we get a couple of wins in there, we’ll be fine.”

Defender Ryan Wharton said: “He’s got the team working hard and you can see that from the last two results.

“We are working hard in training. They have changed the facilities so we are not indoors, we’re training outdoors.”

Wharton, a recent signing from Hemel Hempstead, said tomorrow’s home match with Barton Rovers is “huge”.

He said: “It’s a six pointer and we’ve got to start turning these draws into wins.”
