ANDY Sandell says he is sad to be leaving Wycombe Wanderers - but said he wasn't enjoying playing football for the club any more.

The defender had his contract with Blues terminated by mutual consent this week after playing 50 times for the club.

He joined Forest Green Rovers on loan last month and said he had "fallen out of love" with the game during his time at Wanderers.

But the 28-year-old had nothing but good things to say about the club he helped to win promotion last season - saying Gary Waddock is the best manager he's ever played under.

Sandell told the Bucks Free Press: "I've been with Gary for a while at different clubs and I get on really well with him, so to not be working with him is a big disappointment.

"He's the best gaffer I've ever played for by an absolute mile. I got on really well with the gaffer on and off the field and that's not going to change.

"Wycombe are a very good club to be at. They look after their players extremely well - any player at any club would be lucky to play for them."

He said: "I went in to see Gary about a month ago and said to him I wasn't enjoying playing football at the moment. He took on board what I said and called me in a couple of days later and said you've got to sort yourself out and decide whether you want to stay, go on loan or leave the club.

"I got injured at Rochdale, they brought Grant [Basey] in and he was going to play ahead of me. I'm not a very nice person when I'm not playing football so we came up with a mutual agreement to leave."

Sandell said he was fed up of playing left-back and was deployed in a more advanced position in his brief spell with Forest Green.

But the free-kick specialist, who netted seven times for Blues last season, said he won't be making the move to the Gloucestershire side permanent.

He said: "Their style of play doesn't suit me. I spoke to the manager about it and he agreed to cut the loan short and I can go back to Wycombe."

Sandell said a number of Football League clubs near his West Country home had already been in touch hoping to secure his services after his Blues contract was paid up.

He was coy on naming names but he said: "I'll play local football until January and try to find a club in January. I've only been a free agent a couple of days and I've had a couple of promising phone calls with clubs wanting me to train with them."
