NICK Robinson remains Wasps’ first choice ten, but after the performance of Will Robinson against Exeter the race is now on to be his recognised understudy.
Ryan Davis holds the high ground for now, but the 19-year-old Robinson is quickly closing the gap.
Head coach Paul Turner said: “Will is a good player, he’s got a big future ahead of him.
“He was good when he came on in Worcester and he handled the occasion against Exeter really well he came on.
“He’s got good footwork, he passes the ball as well as anyone I’ve seen and his kicking game is pretty sound.
“He’s one for the future, certainly.”
With that ringing endorsement for his rival, it might be hard for Davis to stay in front in the pecking order.
However, Turner says the player signed from Exeter has done exactly what was expected of him since joing in the summer.
He said: “I knew Ryan a long time before he came here. He didn’t know I knew him, but he was just over the bridge at Bath and anyone with a surname Davis you tend to look if they’ve got duals, which he has.
“He played a lot of his rugby at 12 and I like what I see, he’s a good player.
“At the end of the day, you earn your corn managing chaos and that’s where he’ll improve, managing things week in and week out.
“Like every fly half, you want to get the forwards on your side and the backs on your side. You want to put your side in the right areas and kick your goals.
“Ryan has done ok. He’s come out of the shadow of Nick and I think he’s on the positive side here at the moment.”
