A CHESHAM golf professional has answered the call for on course advice by developing and launching a new iPhone app that golfers can dip into whenever they’re faced with a tricky shot.
James Ellis, who used to be a golf professional at Hazlemere and now works at Urban Golf in London, created the Pocket Pro application after a phone call from one of his clients.
He said: “A client phoned me up from the course saying he had a lie that he couldn’t play from. He said I needed to be out there with him so that got me thinking, there had to be a way I could always be there.”
From that call, Pocket Pro, was born. Volume one is available now, with 25 mini lessons covering bunkers, chipping, putting and trouble shots.
Each lesson includes a 30-second video and a page of bullet-point tips.
Ellis said: “I’ve got a friend who is a developer and he did it for me.
“It’s not constantly updating so you don’t need 3G or wifi to use it. You can use it at home, on the range, in the moment.
“Then I sent it to Apple, and they put it on their front page and named it as their new and noteworthy app.
“I’m not trying to make a quick buck, but golf is over-complicated and too technical. There are a few principles that promote and powerful and consistent motion, but there is no right or wrong way.
“In the long term I plan to have five Pocket Pros out there, with a character and a game.”
Volumes two and three are due in early summer.
