Green, green grass suits Aston Rowant nicely

ASTON Rowant skipper Wesley Morrick believes the wettest April on record could actually benefit his team as they look to make a fast start in their Home Counties Division Two West campaign.

Morrick’s side are yet to play a match this season because their pre-season fixture schedule has so far been washed out. They travel to Division One side Henley tomorrow in their last game before the league season begins the following weekend.

He said: “With our seam attack it could go well for us. We’ll look to take advantage of the conditions and make a fast start, but the first couple of games can be decided simply by the spin of a toss.

“I hope we can win it [the league]. I’m more than confident in our ability, but this is a tough league with some good sides.

“We’ve recruited really well – a couple of our bowlers have suffered injuries but [new signing] Gordon Harrison is a good young fast bowler so it’s nice to have another new-ball option.

“Nick Ferraby is also a great buy now he’s not at Oxford anymore and if you were selecting a dream team for our league he would be in it.”
