  • "Having read the announcement on the Wasps website, the decision has nothing to do with the change of ownership: "After numerous discussions it became clear that the Club would be unable to dissuade the player" and "he has been adamant that he needs a fresh start ...Dom’s ultimate aim is to get back in the England reckoning and he feels he needs to be playing for a side competing at the top of the Aviva Premiership and in the Heineken Cup to do so".

    Purely a rugby decision, then."

Wasps centre to make Saints switch

Dom Waldouck Dom Waldouck

WASPS centre Dom Waldouck is set to join Northampton Saints.

Waldouck has won the Premiership and the Heineken Cup with Wasps and has been on the fringes of the England set-up for more than a year.

Waldouck is under contract at Wasps but handed in a transfer request and Wasps accepted it.

However, because the player is under contract Wasps are believed to have received a 'substantial fee' for him, which they say will be enough to replace him with one or two players.

Waldouck has passed a medical at Northampton and will now train with them.
