700 kids get their own Olympic torch relay

SEVEN hundred children are expected to take part in Marlow's very own Olympic torch relay on Tuesday.

The official London 2012 flame is just missing Marlow, as it weaves its way around Bisham and Maidenhead on the same day.

But Marlow Town Council has not let the snub from Oylmpic organisers ruin the enjoyment of the upcoming games by arranging a relay through Higginson Park.

There is likely to be over 1,000 people in the park for the event, with 700 invites sent out to children.

Mayor Jocelyn Towns said: "We were disappointed that the torch wasn't coming through Marlow. I understood all the reasons, the logistics and so on but we thought it would be a nice idea to hold our own.

"We're very lucky to have Steve Redgrave along to give out the medals and he's going to be involved in the Henley leg of the torch earlier that day."

Organisers stressed that registration has closed and there are no more places for last minute entrants.

The Mayor, who will be one of the dignitaries at the celebrations across Marlow Bridge at Bisham Abbey earlier that day, said those who want to see the official flame have not got far to go.

"It's great, they said you'd never be more than ten miles away from the torch and in fact we're only half a mile away on the bridge," she said.

What are you on about miccles saying Aylesbury and Stoke Mandeville are not in this part of Bucks? THIS WEBSITE IS THE BUCKS FREE PRESS or have i been misled all these years and it is actually the BUCKS FREE PRESS but not the CENTRAL or NORTHERN parts!
The paper and website reporters are quick to jump on other stories regarding Aylesbury and Stoke Mandeville and i am sure the residents of those areas would not be happy that they are not classed as the are that should be reported about!

Sorry, but Aylesbury and Stoke Mandeville, technically are not in this part of Bucks, thats why they have their own local paper, (Bucks Herald), you do not read much news about High Wycombe, in that paper, and vice versa, we do not even get the same TV station as them, we are in the London Region, they are not.

You don't like it, then go to Aylesbury.

If the papers only report on certain areas then they should not be called 'Bucks' besides i always though Marlow had the 'Marlow Free Press'?
