RACHEL Cawthorn will fight for an Olympic Canoe Sprint medal on Thursday but Louisa Sawers and Abi Edmonds fell in their semi-final at Dorney Lake this morning.

Cawthorn, from Marlow, was rowing in the Canoe Sprint K1 and after winning her heat earlier this morning backed it up with another strong performance in the semi-final.

She finished the 500m course in 1.52.54 seconds, just a fraction behind Italian veteran Josefa Idem.

Idem, 47-years-old, first competed in the Olympics in 1984.

However, Sawers and Edmonds were unable to follow Cawthorn in the Canoe Sprint K2, finishing seventh out of eight in their semi-final.

They finish in 1.46, five seconds slower than semi-final winners Germany.

However, the Olympics isn't over yet for Sawyers.

Yesterday she joined Jessica Walker, Cawthorn and Angela Hannah to take Team GB into tomorrow's final in the K4.
