GARY Waddock said some of his players won't feature against Watford on Saturday after failing to impress in last night's friendly defeat to Brentford.

The Blues boss was looking to finish pre-season on a high note but instead his men put in their worst display of the campaign and crashed to a 4-1 loss.

And Waddock said some of the team have played themselves out of contention to face the Championship side in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

He said: "We made it quite clear in the dressing room we won't accept that type of performance in the league and cup fixtures.

"The performance wasn't good enough. Possibly in the players' defence they had half an eye on the game at the weekend but in saying that a few of the players have played themselves out of the team for Saturday.

"I was looking for them to finish on a positive note, whether that was with a victory or whatever, but the performance was what we were looking for and we didn't get that this evening."

Waddock said he could have accepted a display like the one against Brentford earlier in pre-season when his players were still building up their fitness levels.

Overall he said he was satisfied with how pre-season had gone before it ended on such a sour note in the Adams Park rain last night.

He said: "You can look back at some of the performances during pre-season and the lads have put in good performances and worked very, very hard. That wasn't on show tonight. They'll be wondering what the starting eleven will be for Saturday.

"In certain games we've done well against good opposition. Tonight's opposition were very good as well but we didn't perform at all."
