BEACONSFIELD’S world number one golfer Luke Donald says watching London 2012 has inspired him to go for gold in Brazil in 2016.

Golf will become an Olympic sport in four years, and Donald wants to be a part of it.

He said: “Watching certainly has inspired me a lot in terms of having that wish to be there in four years, to have an opportunity to also win a gold medal.”

Donald is going for his own elusive medal this week as he bids to win his major drought at the PGA Championship at Kiawa Island in America.

He is hoping that watching the success of Team GB will fire him over the line.

He said: “I think Mo Farah's last lap was pretty special and Jessica Ennis, living up to the expectation that was put on her shoulders.

“They're all inspiring in their own way. The fact that you have one event every four years to really work hard for, to see some of the guys who don't perform and to see some of the guys that perform and win gold – there's a lot of raw emotions there.”
