Contentious running track plan meeting tomorrow

CONTENTIOUS plans to spend £1.5m moving a running track from High Wycombe to Little Marlow come under the microscope tomorrow.

The scheme has sparked protest from some villagers, who feel it is being rushed through.

A previous proposal to put the track in Hazlemere was axed after outcry from residents there.

Wycombe District Council exhibited proposals for an athletics track to be built on land adjacent to Westhorpe Farm earlier this year.

Initial responses suggested residents were not concerned but more recently the scheme has been attacked.

Villagers have a chance to hear the latest on the move at Little Marlow Parish Council's meeting on Tuesday.

At the latest meeting Martin Braint, of Church Road, Little Marlow, said: "The Little Marlow proposal appears to be a badly thought out, rushed proposal by a desperate council."

The plan, which includes opening up footpaths to access the seven lakes and Spade Oak Lake Nature Reserve, is in green belt land.

The council believes it will benefit sporting residents of all ages.

WDC spokesman Sue Robinson has said concerns could be addressed and satisfactory solutions found.

The parish council meeting begins at 8pm at The Pavilion, Recreation Ground, Little Marlow For more information go to www.wycombe.gov.uk and search ‘running track’.

Here we are basking the post-Olympic afterglow. Hundreds of kids ready to partake in athletic activity.
So please can anyone enlighten me as to the public transport routes which will be available for this centre, which would appear to be being build in the middle of nowhere?
As a kid I loved getting on the bus with my mates to go swimming, running, etc. What now for my kids?

This is like a hot potato. Keeps getting moved from one place to another. I'm sure that in the end, it would end right up at the north of the County at this rate!

I find it strange that it’s unable to stay where it is and have a slight modification to the plans to re-build the new sports centre...

Lets hope this is another Hazlemere, just modernise Handy Cross, together with a running track, tbh we do not need a coach station, offices and another hotel.

Collingswood is just trying to score points, he's not interested in the well being of the general public, what councillor is.

Collingswood is another Tett.

Followed the link above to the WDC web site and as usual there was nothing to see about any meeting - One would think they don't want any discussions that might get in the way

Don't expect the people who 'control' Wycombe and 'sit on' the Council to be interested in anything that resembles Democracy.
.
They are self-indulgent self-selecting cliques and little in-bred gangs of poisonous pompous puffed-up prats who have no interest in what the folk of the area want (or need).
.
They are just mere politicians - and are about the same level as lying bankers , unwanted door-step salespeople and other borderline criminals.

This meeting was NOT as advertised as being a meeting where the public's concerns were to be addressed. in fact it raised more concerns especially and how shamefully poor the application was and there was nobody from the applicants side there at all to be questioned.

The biggest fear raised was that the WDC is not only the applicant but the authority approving the application and as such Little Marlow is going to get it like or want it or not - There was a couple of members of the planing department at the meeting who tried to allay fears on this but there was a lot who could not accept their assurances about their independence

What it did show was just how toothless local councils are against decisions made by the next authority up the line - In this case WDC - it also showed just how little the Little Marlow Council can do to stop it even though it was very evident that nobody there wanted the track at all. So the fallacy that the resident want it can only have been made by those either not affected or living else wear.

The running track proposed is for a 8 lane track - porter cabins for changing rooms, a WC (With waist disposal concerns) a Bank for spectators to sit on and dubious path that seem to cross land owned by Thames Water

There will be parking for about 200 cars - with picnic area and lighting that retracts to 7.5m (Great we light up a field in the middle of nowhere) It doesn't address local concerns about the Winchbottom Lane Junction and the traffic report is a joke.

All in all a running track that nobody wants in a place nobody wants it and a mere shadow of what we already have
