Beaconsfield captain undaunted by London 1 North

BEACONSFIELD RFC captain Andy Zair has challenged his team to finish in the top half of the London 1 North table despite starting the season with two losses.

However, last Saturday’s 28-27 defeat was nothing like their 48-0 whitewash at the hands of Letchworth on the opening day.

They were beaten by just one point after conceding a penalty in the final few seconds, and Zaire insists there is a lot to take from the performance.

He said: “The result is one thing and it was tough to finish the game like that, but we wanted to put in a good performance and play for 80 minutes and we did that.

“It was a very positive day overall.”

Matt Morgan and a pushover try kept Beaconsfield in the game for the first three quarters before a third try in the final stages eased them into a 27-20 lead.

But Ruislip hit back with a try of their own before a penalty in the last few seconds snatched it out of Beaconsfield’s hands.

Zair said: “We can finish in the top half of the table, absolutely.

“We’ve got a strong squad, a lot of depth, good coaches and a supportive committee.

“The players will produce. We’re not daunted by this level.”

On Saturday Beaconsfield take on Old Haberdashers.
