RGS go the distance

RGS rowers were miles better RGS rowers were miles better

HIGH Wycombe RGS rowers proved they have the staying power by winning half of the races they entered at the Boston Marathon.

The 50km event stretches between Lincoln and Boston, and is a totally different test to the traditional 4km heads.

But Wycombe showed their stamina to win the J15 doubles, J15 singles and J14 single sculls.

Setting the standard was the doubles team of Sam Williams and Conor Howlett, who didn’t just win the race but romped it in a time of four hours and one minute, 20 minutes under the previous course record.

Nick Davison followed them home with victory in the J15 singles while Lewis Howlett, rowing up a year, set a new course record by ten minutes in the J14 single sculls.

Also competing were Meehir Ptal in the J15 singles, James Beagles and Milun Russel in the J15 double and Tom Commins and Rob Eyres in the J17 Double, although they had to withdraw due to illness.

Meanwhile, the RGS rowing club will be raising money for equipment and cancer research on October 13.
