MARLOW FC are going about it the right way if they want to return to the Southern League at the first attempt.

After relegation last year, they have began their Hellenic Premier League campaign like a house on fire and went top of the pile on Saturday when they walloped Abingdon Town 8-1.

Marcus Mealing led the way with a hat-trick, Ian Davies added two more with Danny Lingwood, Richard Witt and Steve Mayberry also on target.

Manager Mark Bartley said: “I’m pretty pleased. We’ve had a few stumbles but since then we’ve been superb.

“We’re top at the moment and we haven’t had an easy run so far. We’ve played top six, top seven sides “I’ve got no doubt there’ll be stages where it doesn’t feel like it’s flowing, but the boys have worked hard and bought into everything I’m trying to do.

“There is still lots for us to work on but I’m definitely not ruling out promotion this year.”

Tomorrow they go to Shrivenham.

In Division One East, Chalfont Wasps lost 5-2 at home to Didcot, Chinnor were beaten 3-1 by Rayners Lane and Penn & Tylers Green lost 4-1 at Easington.
