Blues continue sharp-shooting start

GOALS and points were in short supply for Marlow last season; this year however they’re rejuvenated under Mark Bartley and anyone who has been to Oak Tree Road has been virtually guaranteed a healthy dose of both.

The Blues have scored four or more times in five of their six home matches so far and last Saturday they took that prolific form on the road to despatch Shrivenham 4-1.

That took their goal tally to 20 in the four league matches since Witney stunned them 5-1 a month ago.

Bartley said: “I like to build attacking sides, that’s how I believe football should be played.

“I’ve always set my teams up like that and although it means you can get some hairy games, like Witney, I’d like to think that over the course of the season it will pay off.”

It certainly is so far, with Marlow top of the pile with seven wins (33 goals) from nine games.

Bartley said: “With the quality we’ve got in the squad and everyone working hard, chances are coming for us and we’re taking them.

“We were missing six players against Shrivenham, including four who could play up front, but we showed we’ve got strength in depth and managed to go out and get the right result.”

Marcus Mealing, Gary Smith and Marcus Richardson (2) were their scorers ahead of tomorrow’s visit from Slimbridge.

Bartley said: “I’m not naive enough to think we won’t have a sticky patch at some point in the season, but the players are starting to see how good they can be if they put their minds to it.”
