DAI Young believes there are comparisons between where Wasps are now and where Harlequins were three or four seasons ago.

The champions of England are a class apart these days, but Young can see similarities in the two clubs’ progression.

He said: “If you remember, for a year or two Harlequins were having the same sort of problems as us. They were showing so many good glimpses and losing games.

“They’ve brought in very few players over the last couple of seasons and just built, and all of a sudden they’ve got that total understanding as a team.

“I remember talking to Connor O’Shea and he said he could point to four or five games over the last three years that have been big springboards for them – winning at Stade Francais, winning in Munster.

“They were big games in the team’s development. But it’s taken them four years to get where they are.

“We’ve got the quality but we’re still not quite gelling as a team and I don’t think that will happen this year.

“I’m not saying we’re not going to get better because I think we will, but I still think we’ll be a better team next year.”
