CARETAKER boss Gareth Ainsworth appears to be in pole position at the moment to become Blues’ next permanent boss.

He has been told he will be given time to stake his claim and, despite the club having received more than 40 applications for the role so far, no interviews have yet been scheduled.

David Cook, the Supporters Trust director with the responsibility for communication, said: “There’s no great rush. Gareth needs to be given time.

“He’s a good guy with a lot of faith in the squad and the players have got a lot of respect and faith in him.”

“Gareth needs to be given time but equally we have to get to a point where we either say he’s doing a great job or things haven’t worked out and we need to get these interviews underway – it’s going to be influenced by the next few games or so.”

Wanderers host Plymouth tonight.
