SAM Wood said it was hard to focus on the positives from Saturday's draw at Oxford after the U's equalised right at the death.

Six of the seven minutes allotted for stoppage time had elapsed when Oxford drew level for a second time against ten man Wanderers through defender Johnny Mullins.

Wood, who filled in at left back after Charles Dunne was sent off five minutes into the second half, said he and rest of the back four never felt like they were going to be breached until Mullins' devastating blow at the end.

He said: "I thought we were solid, even with ten men. To go a goal down in whatever minute it was, it does feel like a defeat. But it's a good result against the team that's top of the league.

"I didn't think we were going to concede. They didn't break us down. We made it hard for them to break us down, which we've been working on in training.

"The boys have got loads of positives. Gaz said 'no negatives, I'm proud of you'. We shouldn't have lost it."

Blues were a goal up before Dunne's dismissal, and it looked like the game was about to be turned on its head as Danny Rose's free kick from out wide flew all the way in to bring it level at 1-1.

But Wanderers went back in front and looked set to comfortably hold out against a team who had scored nine goals in their first three matches of the season.

Wood said: "After going down to ten men and conceding straight away it could have been an onslaught, especially with them being top of the league and flying.

"We've dug deep and managed to go 2-1 up. We've battled on and they didn't really cause too much hassle after that.

"We've got loads to take out of it. We'll look back at it and think we did well. If we take today into next week, I can't see a problem. After last week's bad performance, we performed today."
