WANDERERS boss Gareth Ainsworth said his players were telling him the ball had crossed the line in an injury time goalmouth scramble.

The net appeared to ripple as Alfie Mawson tried to ram home the rebound after Peter Murphy and Matt McClure had both seen headers strike the crossbar.

But the officials allowed play to continue despite protests from the Wanderers players that the whole of the ball had crossed the line deep into stoppage time.

Ainsworth said: “I haven’t seen it on the DVD yet but I’ll probably still say it’s gone in.

“The boys were saying, ‘Yeah, it’s crossed the line, it’s crossed the line’. I’d have said that as a player.”

The chance came from a dangerous inswinging corner delivery from Joe Jacobson and Ainsworth said: “What’s good is when we get corners, there’s this expectation we are going to score or create something, which maybe we didn’t have last year.”
