SAM Wood said Wanderers aren't getting carried away by their fine start to the season.

The midfielder got his name on the scoresheet for the first time this campaign as Blues continued their unbeaten run away from home with a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth.

With results elsewhere going in Blues' favour, Wood's goal briefly put Wanderers at the top of the League Two table.

They remain in the automatic promotion places after losing a solitary match and conceding a miserly six goals in their nine matches so far.

But while some supporters are dreaming about what their side are capable of achieving this season, Wood's focus isn't on anything beyond Saturday's home game with newly promoted Cambridge United.

He said: "There's a long way to go yet. We're not looking for anything. We just take every game as it comes - it's onto the next one, we'll prepare for that and see how we go.

"We're not worried about them [the other teams in the league], we're worried about us, what Gaz is doing and what we are doing on the training ground."

The 28-year-old said he was content with a point from their trip to Fratton Park, which had followed a midweek 1-0 win at Plymouth Argyle.

He said: "It's kept the unbeaten run going.

"It was a great result Tuesday, and this is a big place to come. They are favourites to get promoted. On paper it's a great point but we could have got all three. If we grab a point away from home every game we'll be happy.

"The way we've been playing has been working for us."

On his goal - his sixth for the club - Wood added: "I've been setting them up but it's nice to get on the scoresheet myself. Hopefully there's a few more in there for me."
