GARETH Ainsworth said the end of Wanderers' unbeaten run will serve as a way of bringing fans excited at their start to the season back down to earth.

Blues' run of ten matches without defeat came to an end as they let the lead slip to lose 2-1 at Exeter City last night.

Peter Murphy's opening goal and results elsewhere meant that at one stage Wanderers held a five point lead at the summit of the division - but a turnaround meant that although Ainsworth's men still lead League Two, they do so on goal difference only.

And the Blues boss said: "This will bring everyone back down to earth and realise this is League Two and anyone can beat anyone in this league."

Wanderers were in front inside five minutes and controlled the opening half hour of the game.

But an Exeter equaliser flipped the game on its head and the Wycombe storm that has cast aside a succession of opponents blew itself out.

Blues looked increasingly tired the longer the game went on and failed to match the high standards they have set for themselves over the course of a season that has so far promised much.

Ainsworth said: "We started the game fantastically, did some great moves, got a great goal, and I thought we were destined for a good game, but we ran out of steam a little bit.

"The energy levels were lacking just a little bit tonight. Maybe that's [from] a mammoth effort to get the 28 points we have at the moment.

"We had the chances to maybe put the game to bed and definitely to get back into it.

"There were errors out there, but I'm not going into detail publicly. We'll address that in training and get that sorted.

"Exeter did really well going forward - it was quite a long ball side going forward, which is different from the Exeter of the past. Usually we can eat that long ball up but tonight they were better. We lost a lot of headers."
