MATT Ingram was declared the best goalkeeper in League Two by his manager after another string of top saves demonstrated why he’s so sought after.

The High Wycombe-born glovesman provided a one-man barrier in the first half of Blues’ FA Cup tie at Barnet yesterday as he excelled between the sticks once more to pave the way for Wanderers’ ultimately safe passage into round two.

Had he not been on top of his game Wycombe could quite easily have been out of contention with half an hour gone and his manager Gareth Ainsworth said afterwards: “I keep saying how people are overlooking Matt Ingram. He’s incredible. I think he’s the best keeper in League Two.

“I’m his manager, so I’m going to say that, but he’s been outstanding today. He kept us in the game.”

And team mate Matt Bloomfield added: “I wouldn’t disagree – I haven’t seen anyone better than him yet.”

He said: “There’s nothing more than we’ve come to expect, because he’s that good. I rate him extremely highly, as everyone does at the club. We know he’s got a massive future ahead of him.

“He comes in and does his work, doesn’t cause anyone one moment of problem, and that’s the type of attitude you need if you’re going to go on in the game.”

Ingram, who has been watched by a host of top clubs including Nottingham Forest in recent months, was recently named the Football League’s young player of the month.
