INJURY concerns mounted for Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth last night as Alfie Mawson was taken to hospital and Sam Wood and Max Kretzschmar were forced off.

Mawson was concussed following a clash of heads and was taken to hospital as a precaution, having received a lengthy period of treatment on the pitch.

Midfielder Kretzschmar was reportedly seen leaving Adams Park with a protective boot on his foot after being withdrawn at half time of the 3-1 defeat by Burton Albion.

With Wood also coming off and Peter Murphy limping heavily towards the end, the Wanderers treatment room will be rammed full this week in a bid to put a side out against Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

Ainsworth was only able to name three outfield players on the bench as it was due to injuries and suspensions taking its toll on his slim squad.

But the Blues boss said he knew what the risks were when he opted to go for quality over quantity in terms of his squad personnel and has no regrets despite the slim pickings he's faced with.

He said: "We know what we are. We can't go out and spend loads of money and bring lots of people in. We will cope with that, and the lads want to get back on it and put things right. I'm sure they will.

"I just worry too many suspensions and injuries will take its toll on us. We will have to be super good in the medical department and the discipline department to make sure we have a solid squad every game to compete.

"It [picking up injuries] is going to happen, it just seems to have happened in one night. We had the squad knowing we'd have these moments. We'll get back on track, no problem.

"We'll have the medical staff working overtime this week to get everyone back for Saturday."

Referring to Mawson's injury, Ainsworth said: "He's been whacked and come off very groggy. I don't know the extent of everything yet. The doctor's with him and he's been taken to hospital as a precaution.

"Sam Wood's come off through injury, Max Kretzschmar as well through injury, Peter Murphy was limping towards the end as well."

Mawson tweeted this morning he feels fine, but a concussion would rule him out of Saturday's game.
