SIDO Jombati hopes to get a good reception from his old fans at Cheltenham tomorrow after missing the chance to say goodbye to them properly.

The Portuguese full back joined Wanderers in the summer after being released by the Gloucestershire club, where he was a fans' favourite during his three year spell.

Jombati said he was surprised at being given the boot after being part of the side that twice reached the play offs, featuring at Wembley in the 2012 final defeat by Crewe Alexandra.

Asked about how he felt returning to his former home, the 27-year-old said: "It's not strange, it's the way football is. It gets to the point where you need to change your life and change your club.

"It's going to be a good experience going back there. It will be nice going back. I'm looking forward to it.

"I had a very good relationship with the fans. I did very well for them, in my opinion, they liked me a lot in my time there.

"I have to tell the truth, it was a bit of a surprise to be released, but that's the way football is. I had to deal with it. I didn't expect to leave the club, and if you do well at a club you do want to say goodbye properly, but that's fine."

The former Sporting Lisbon man added: "We hit the play offs twice and we very close to getting promoted. It's quite similar to what's happened with Wycombe now, doing well with no big budget.

"When you have injuries you need to get together and play in positions you don't want to play, and you have to work hard for the team. That's the biggest similarity I can see between both clubs."

Jombati is looking to bounce back from the disappointment of Monday night's defeat by Burton, saying: "I didn't do well, especially for the second goal, but we have to forget that performance."
