Gareth Ainsworth said it would be stupid for Wanderers not to continue their promotion push after reaching their initial survival target.

The Blues boss said the focus for his players now is to finish as high up the League Two table as possible, after victory over Cambridge United last week took them past the 55 point mark chairman Andrew Howard had challenged them to reach to guarantee survival.

With the season now entering its final third, Blues continue to defy expectations by remaining inside the automatic promotion places.

And Ainsworth said the hard work will not stop now in spite of reaching that milestone, saying the aim now is to push on and continue their good form.

No new targets in terms of points have been set for Wanderers, but Ainsworth said his side is full of winners and he's fully expecting them to keep on winning and challenge for promotion.

The Wanderers chief said: "If you ask any player in the Football League what they want to do, they'll say they want to get promoted, even if the manager's told them not to say that. My players are no different - I know what they want to achieve.

"We want to go out and win every game and see where we end up.

"I'm not going to set any targets - I'm not going to say, 'We can achieve this', and if we don't it's a failure. This season, for me, has already been a successful one, with the state of the club and the turnaround from last year.

"But I've been in this game a long time and with 16 games left, with this position we are in in the league, I know we have a real chance of achieving a high position.

"We'd be stupid not to go for it. Whether we can do it or not, with the resources we've got here, will be another story.

"We'll be doing every single thing we possibly can to win games.

"Our DNA is winners - myself, my coaches, we are winners. It's in our DNA and we will be going into every game believing we can win.

"How high can we reach? That's what I want to see, what we can reach now we've reached 56 points - how high can you go? I don't know what we can get to, but I know we are definitely not stopping at 56 points."

Ainsworth said he is looking to add to his squad - although he warned he's not prepared to push the boat out.

He said: "I want everyone to realise if I can bring players in to add to the squad, I will. I'll be putting the best side out every week to win as many games and get the points."
