Wanderers are now just a point off the League Two summit after a hard fought away win at Tranmere, which saw the Blues play out the final 20 minutes with ten men.

There were a number of strong performances from Gareth Ainsworth’s side, but who would you pick out as your man-of-the-match?

Striker Paul Hayes got the ball rolling for Wanderers after tucking away a penalty to net his tenth goal of the season. But the Chairboys captain brings so much more than goals to the table for his team and his link-up play with his teammates on Tuesday night was once again a factor in their attacking display.

Hayes has formed a very productive partnership with Fred Onyedinma over the past two games in a 4-4-2 system, and the 18-year-old is flourishing in a more central role. He tore Stevenage to shreds on Saturday and he was at it once again at Prenton Park to score what proved to be the winning goal five minutes before half-time.

Most Blues fans feared the absence of Aaron Pierre through a two-game suspension would disrupt their settled back four, but Alfie Mawson has struck up a good understanding with Danny Rowe and the on loan Brentford man once again stood out. His commitment to the cause is never in doubt and he made a number of key blocks and won a number of important headers as the ten men saw the game out.

In just his second game for the Blues Nico Yennaris put in a confident performance at the heart of the midfield alongside Matt Bloomfield as the visitors sought to control proceedings. The 21-year-old looks like he will be a good addition to the squad after pulling the string against Tranmere.
