Phil Brown says Southend threw away two points against Wanderers at Roots Hall on Saturday and insisted his team could have scored six.

Barry Corr twice put the hosts in front before Steven Criag and then Alfie Mawson levelled for Blues, but it was the plethora of chances spurned by his side that frustrated Brown.

The Shrimpers boss saw Joe Pigott, Myles Weston and Kevan Hurst all miss good chances to settle the game with the score at 2-1 – chances which all went begging.

“It's two points dropped. By far and above, the quality of our play was better than Wycombe. We've thrown away two points,” said Brown.

“It's a real waste. It's poor play and poor management. We've conceded two goals and thrown points away. We should be walking away with four, five or even six goals.

“Look at their first goal. We haven't scored one of those goals all season. When we have chances like we had today – from Joe Pigott, Myles Weston Kevan Hurst – we have to put them away.

“What an absolute waste of time to not get the three points today.

“When we got beat 4-1 at their place I think it was the worst I felt. We had an opportunity to have a go today with two wingers – Kevan Hurst and David Worrall – and two strikers. We gifted them a point today.

“We played Wycombe off the park today and if they go up automatically, I want to know why we don't – if that becomes the case. There are positives to take.

“There's loads of twists and turns and lots of stories to tell between now and the end of the season. We'll still have a big say in the remaining games.”
