Oxford United head coach Michael Appleton says the pressure is all on Wycombe Wanderers ahead of their Good Friday meeting at Adams Park.

The U’s are eight points above the relegation zone in League Two, putting them 16th in the table, as they arrive in Buckinghamshire for the ‘M40 derby’.

Wanderers are fighting it out of the other end of the table and victory, coupled with a Bury defeat, could see them ten points clear of fourth place.

“I think probably more pressure is on them as the home team and they're the ones chasing promotion,” said Appleton.

“Wycombe are probably asking themselves 'how many games do we need to win between now and the end of the season?'

“If they get a good Easter weekend I'm sure they will be thinking they're definitely up. I think it will be difficult for the sides from fourth down to try and catch the top three.”

Oxford have won just four times in 2015 thus far, although one of those victories came in the form of a 2-1 success at home to Carlisle last time out.

Suspended striker Alex MacDonald is the only man missing for Oxford, who have used 39 players this season compared to the 23 used by Gareth Ainsworth.

Appleton also hinted that he will be looking to exploit Wycombe’s defensive woes. “The atmosphere is going to be good; I think we will take a few fans down there to add to what will be a good atmosphere anyway,” he said.

“We will pay the utmost respect because of what they've done this year. They're a dangerous side and they score goals.

“Early on in the season they didn't concede many, but of late I think five of the last seven or eight games they've conceded two goals.

“That's something we're aware of and will try to work on.”
