A patched up Wanderers team battled hard before going down to League Two leaders Burton at the Pirelli Stadium on Easter Monday.

Sam Saunders was missing after he tweaked a hamstring in training which opened the door for Aaron Holloway, who scored in his cameo appearance against Oxford. The striker did a decent job of holding the ball up and bringing his team mates into play in the first half, providing the Blues with a physical edge up front before fatigue got the better of him in the second half.

Aaron Pierre looked like a man who is hell bent on helping Wanderers achieve promotion at any cost and the defender was throwing himself at headers as the visitors pushed for an equaliser. One of those headers drew a fantastic save from Jon McLaughlin, who was lucky to still be on the pitch, three minutes from time.

Nico Yennaris had his work cut out in the second half as Nasser El Khayati switched to Burton’s left flank in the second half but the on loan Brentford man did his level best to nullify the Dutchman’s threat. Going forward Yennaris was one of Blues’ best outlets and the speed at which he helped launch attacks put some much needed impetus behind Wycombe’s play.

Fred Onyedinma had a quiet day by his standards but still carried a threat which prompted Burton to hold a deep line as they tried to contain his pace. The one opportunity the forward did have to run at the Burton defence he beat two players before just failing to squeeze the ball past McLaughlin at his near post.
