Gareth Ainsworth admits to looking over his shoulder instead of at the teams ahead of Wanderers after two damaging bank holiday defeats - but says Blues' promotion destiny is still in their own hands.

Wanderers' form in March won Ainsworth the manager of the month award, but their hopes of promotion glory took a severe setback as they were beaten by rivals Oxford United and League Two leaders Burton Albion over the Easter weekend.

They are now four points ahead of fourth placed Bury, who have a game in hand - and Blues' situation could have been even more precarious had the Shakers not suffered a surprising home defeat to Morecambe on Monday.

With five games of the campaign to go Blues are now seven points behind Burton and Ainsworth admits the Brewers are probably out of his side's reach.

But the Blues boss said if his men get back to the level of consistency they had shown prior to their back-to-back defeats, they will be able to see themselves over the line.

Ainsworth said: "We've been looking over our shoulder the whole season, but we've also been looking above us. The top teams are still catchable and they have got some tough games coming up. The teams around us are going to be doing everything they can to catch us.

"We've been consistent over 41 games. We need to stay consistent for the last five games and keep the bar high.

"We want to believe we can win all five games and if we can win all five games, there's a chance we can finish at the top of the league. But there's a real fine line between winning all five games and not winning all five games.

"We want to aim high but we want to keep consistent and not get carried away with trying to reach something that maybe we can't.

"There will be no settling for anything, not under me. We have to go out and believe we can win - Saturday is the start of that run."
