There are likely to be a few spare seats on the visitors’ substitutes bench on Saturday when an injury hit Wanderers squad play AFC Wimbledon.

Gareth Ainsworth confirmed on Thursday morning that he will once again be unable to name seven subs after four players picked up injuries during the 2-1 win against Exeter on Tuesday night.

Aaron Holloway and his replacement Matt McClure both limped off before half an hour had been played while Alfie Mawson and Nico Yennaris each required several minutes of treatment in the second half.

“Aaron Holloway and Matt McClure both picked up knocks that were muscles so we’ll have a look at both of those,” said Ainsworth.

“Not necessarily meaning that they’re out for too long because Sam Saunders picked up a hamstring injury and he only missed two days training and one game. There’s different grades, there’s different things that happen inside, so we’ll have a look at both of those.

“Alfie’s been whacked hard and I think he had a dead leg. Nico came off after a serious blow in the ribs and he was struggling to breathe for while, but he finished the game and I think he’ll be ok.”

Joe Jacobson missed the midweek victory after injuring himself in a tackle against Cheltenham, but the left-back is working hard to be involved on Saturday.

The Wycombe boss said: “Joe’s got a chance. He’s one of those when you talk about heart and desire, and for Joe Jacobson to go into that tackle in the first place shows his commitment to this club.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Joe pulls up trees in the next couple of days to get out there and face Wimbledon. He’ll be right there.”

If Jacobson doesn’t make it he’ll join Sido Jombati on the sidelines, with Max Kretzschmar also a doubt for the game.

“Him, Sido and people like that you’ve got them in the stands and they’re our biggest fans when they’re in the stands. They want the best for Wycombe Wanderers and that’s fantastic for me,” said Ainsworth.
