Gareth Ainsworth says Matt Ingram is “very close” to playing a part in Wanderers’ play-off semi-final second leg against Plymouth on Thursday night.

The Wycombe boss fielded rookie Alex Lynch in goal during a 3-2 win in the first leg after losing his first choice stopper to injury against Northampton on the final day of the season.

Ingram isn’t the only injury worry for Ainsworth after all three of the strikers he deployed from the start at Home Park came off injured.

Steven Craig revealed after the game that he had tweaked a hamstring while Paul Hayes told the BFP that he is “fit and available” for Thursday after taking a blow to the head.

“You put three centre forwards on, all three of them come off when they’ve all scored and that does give you problems,” said the Blues boss.

“We’ll assess everyone again, get close to the game, see what we can do and I’ll pick the team that I think will do the best job for me.

“There will be tired legs in both teams. It’s a big pitch down at Plymouth and we ran our socks off, gave our all and came away with a fantastic result. We’ll have to get everyone, patched up, energised and ready for Thursday.”

Striker Matt McClure has had a stop start season with a mixture of injury and suspension meaning he has featured only nine times in 2015, although Ainsworth said he will be in contention for the game at Adams Park.

He said: “Matty’s (Ingram) very close.

“There’s a few now that are coming into the equation. Matt McClure’s getting closer as well as the players who came back like JJ (Joe Jacobson).

“It’s fantastic and it’s only really Sido who is unavailable now. He’s (Matt Ingram) is really close, which is positive for us.”
