WANDERERS boss Gareth Ainsworth saw his side go second in the table but he had to give them a half time rocket to get there.

He said after their 2-0 win at Exeter: “In the first half we weren’t good enough  and there were a few choice words said at half time. I gave the boys a rocket and got a reaction.”

Blues were fortunate to go in at 0-0 at half time but turned it round with a smash and grab in six second half minutes.

Ainsworth said: “In the second half we took our chances and then we saw the game out tactically really well.

“It’s a tough place to come, Leyton Orient came here and got beat 4-0. I’m really pleased that we’ve done a good professional job in the second half and taken the points.

“In the first half our passing was terrible, we couldn’t find our men and I’ve no idea why. Westarted playing at Exeter’s pace and that’s not us. We are a high energy side but we couldn’t get it clicking in the first half. If Exeter had taken their chances in the first half it would have been a different story because they had a few but we took ours and saw the game out really professionally.”

And he paid tribute to free kick expert Joe Jacobson for setting them on their way in the 51st minute before Garry Thompson added the killer second six minutes later in a 2-0 win.

He said: “Joe Jacobson is always out there with his free kicks, practising and practising and it’s paid off. It was a fantastic free kick and the second goal was a really well-worked counter attacking goal.

“After that it was about seeing the game out and I thought we did it really well.”
