Gareth Ainsworth has praised the impact of his substitutes as both Max Kretzschmar and Aaron Amadi-Holloway came off the bench to score against Halifax Town.

Both goals came in the closing stages of Sunday’s comprehensive 4-0 FA Cup win in a second half display that saw Wycombe play some impressive football.

Amadi-Holloway’s injury time strike in the 2-0 win at Mansfield a week ago was the Blues first from a substitute all season and Ainsworth was pleased to see his replacements making a consistent impact.

“It gives me food for thought and there are good options on the bench and when you have that quality to call on it is a fantastic plus for us,” he said.

“There were some fantastic players who didn’t get on today, the likes of Anthony Stewart and Michael Harriman, so it shows we are a small squad but we are a strong squad.”

The second half display came with a change of formation as Ainsworth switched to a seldom used diamond in midfield.

The Blues adapted quickly to the changes and produced wave upon wave of attack that could have seen them win the game by a bigger margin than the four goals that they did.

It led to greater fluidity in the attacking third as Wanderers outplayed there Vanarama National league opponents.

The introduction of fresh legs appeared to prove too much for the part-time outfit as their full-timecounterparts set about their task with the competent swagger of a professional team.

Ainsworth explained: “We changed formation and went to a diamond at the end which is something we haven’t done this season and the players dealt with it really well and we are adaptable.”

Wanderers now face a wait to see who they will face in the second round of the cup when the draw is made live on BBC Two tonight.
