Wycombe Wanderers will play their FA Cup second round tie against Millwall at 3pm on Saturday, 5 December.

The match sees the Chairboys travel to the Den to face their League One opponents and is a repeat of last season’s first round Capital One Cup match which the hosts won 1-0.

The match will not be televised but should Wycombe win it will be the first time they have reached the third round under the management of Gareth Ainsworth.

He is looking forward to the game that he expects to be accompanied by the raucous atmosphere that goes hand in hand with a game at Millwall.

He said: “It is a good draw to get and we are looking forward to it. The boys are excited by the fact it is one of the bigger teams and it should be a good game with a good crowd down there.

“Form goes out the window in the FA Cup so we have every chance to go there and get a result.”

With Wycombe’s long-term plan being to get promotion to League One the match could be seen as a chance to gauge what sort of level they will need to attain to achieve this target.

Ainsworth though is not looking at it in that way and while reiterating his view that form is irrelevant in the FA Cup made the point that he gauges progress over a prolonged period of time.

“I wouldn’t say it is a good chance to see where we are but it is a good test for us. I always say that you base progress on a long-term basis,” he explained.

“I would rather look at it over the course of a season and over 46 games in the league. We can’t say that if we beat Millwall we are better than them or vice versa.”
