Gareth Ainsworth was happy with a point in League Two against AFC Wimbledon despite being disappointed by conceding a late goal.

The Blues had led through Jason McCarthy’s first professional goal but conceded in injury time as Adebayo Azeez volleyed in from close range.

It meant the Chairboys remain in mid-table but Ainsworth was happy with the point from what was a competitive match.

Ainsworth said: “I’m disappointed by the goal but not by the performance. A point away at Wimbledon is a good result.

“We were so close and there was a potential foul on the keeper but I have told the players not to get too down, Wimbledon have had one shot and it has gone in.

“We probably had the lion’s share of the chances and we frustrated them. The work ethic is something that I’m really proud of and I’m really pleased with the point.”

The foul Ainsworth is talking about came moments before Azeez fired home the leveller.

Wycombe players felt that Matt Ingram had been impeded as he palmed a high ball down into the middle of the box.

It was a painful way to end a game in which the home side had caused Wanderers few problems and failed to really test their defence.

Ainsworth claimed that he felt there was a foul on his number one and also suggested that the referee had a patchy performance and made a number of mistakes.

“Matt thinks he has been fouled and we (the squad) think he was as well. The referee missed a few things today but you hope to get them back at the end of the season,” he said.

“We will have a look at the video and I can write up my report on it but that is not going to get me two points back today.”

“There is a little bit of disappointment for me today but we have to pick ourselves up for Tuesday now.”

Despite the draw Wanderers are still just three points outside the play-off places with two games in hand ahead of a hectic Christmas period.
